BADMC???S October Southern Farmers??? Market

The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation???s Southern Farmers??? Market this month will take place on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, at the Fairy Valley Plantation House, Christ Church, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

All farmers and vendors interested in taking part in the market should contact Kelly Ann Gibson at 428-0250, by Thursday, October 23, for further queries or to book a space.

Under the theme ???Grow Local Buy Local???, the farmers??? market will feature a selection of local fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits, as well as a variety of meats, including turkey wings, beef, minced meat and rabbit.

Fresh meats, including Blackbelly lamb, local beef, pork and chicken, as well as Carmeta???s products like beef burgers, lamb and beef sausages, cassava chunks and grated cassava and juices, will also be on sale.

The public can also purchase fresh milk, eggs and fish, along with local agro-processed products like jams, oils, wines, sauces, marinates, local craft, jewellery, clothes, plants and flowers.

Patrons will have the opportunity to have their blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI checked by the Knight???s Health Advantage Club, and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture will be on hand to answer questions on plant health.

Activities to Celebrate Teachers??? Professional Day

Teachers at the Albert Graham Development Centre will observe Teachers??? Professional Day tomorrow, Friday, October 17, by attending a lecture entitled: Aquatic Safety for the Disabled Community, at the headquarters of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ladymeade Gardens, St Michael.

The presentation, to be delivered by lifeguard Christopher Gajadhar, begins at 10:00 a.m.??Meanwhile on Thursday, October 30, the Centre will launch a new environmental awareness activity aimed at promoting the 4Rs ??? reduce, reuse, recycle and ???rethink??? ??? on the grounds of the Centre.

Donna King-Brathwaite, Environmental Education Officer attached to the Ministry of the Environment, will address the staff and students on the topic: Playing Our Part To Save The Earth, at 10:00 a.m.

Month-Long Postal Activities Continue

Members of the public are invited to wear red and white and join the staff of the Barbados Postal Service (BPS) in walking for a cause on Sunday, October 19.

The walk, a part of the BPS??? month-long celebration activities, will start at the Worthing Post Office, Christ Church, at 3:30 p.m. and proceed to the General Post Office (GPO) at Cheapside, The City.

Transportation will be provided to take persons between the GPO and Worthing before and after the walk. Participants are also invited to walk with a non-perishable food item to donate to the HIV Food Bank.

On Tuesday, October 21, members of the public are invited to hear steel pannist, Noel Harry, perform during a free lunch-time concert from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., at the GPO, Cheapside, The City.

The Postal Service???s month-long celebration activities will conclude with a free variety concert, showcasing the talent of postal workers and well-known guest performers on Saturday, October 25, at the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Registration for Community Dance Fest Extended

Dance groups interested in registering for the 2014-2015 Community Dance Fest now have until Friday, October 31, to do so. Hosted by the Community Development Department, the annual event brings together children and adults to compete in all genres of dance.

Archives??? Telephone Lines Not Working

Members of the public have been advised that the Department of Archives is presently experiencing difficulties with its telephone system.

According to an official of the department, technicians are currently working to resolve the problem, however, delays will be experienced. Persons wishing to reach the Department should do so by telephoning 425-1381.??The Barbados Department of Archives apologises for the inconvenience currently being experienced.
