Change of Entrance To Treasury Department

Members of the public have been advised that the first floor entrance to the Treasury Department on the eastern side of the Treasury Building has been designated for staff-only.

Entry to the Treasury Department will continue to be from the ground floor on the southern side of the Treasury Building, closest to the careenage.

Meanwhile, the public is reminded that there is a dress code in effect for persons conducting business in the Treasury Building.

The Treasury Department apologises for any inconvenience the change may cause.

Inter-Faith Service To Celebrate CARICOM Unity

The longest surviving integration grouping among developing nations will be celebrated during an inter-faith service organised by the Organisation of Caribbean Associations (OCAB).

The service, under the patronage of CARICOM Ambassador, Robert Morris, will be held on Sunday, October 20, at the St. Patrick???s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Jemmott???s Lane, St. Michael, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will address the service, which has as its theme Celebrating CARICOM Unity.

The service is a response to a call from CARICOM leaders to bring the work of CARICOM and the Secretariat to the people of the region, and to associate the organisations with the lives of the people, rather than focusing narrowly on trade and economic development.

OCAB???s membership is made up of Caribbean nationals from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Dominica, and St. Lucia who live in Barbados.

The group???s activities include organising joint activities for the interaction of citizens; encouraging Caribbean residents to support and participate in festivities sponsored by their respective national associations; and promoting inter-cultural exchanges within the Caribbean region.

Celebrate National Library Service???s 166th Anniversary

The public is invited to attend a number of activities to commemorate the National Library Service???s 166th anniversary.

The celebrations will begin with a church service on Sunday, October 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Leonard???s Anglican Church, Westbury Road, St. Michael.

On Monday, October 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Fairchild Street branch of the National Library Service there will be a Read-a-thon of the book In the Castle of My Skin by George Lamming. Admission to the read-a-thon is free.

Several popular persons will attend the event to read passages from the text. These include Chief Justice, Sir Marston Gibson; Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo; Senator Kerryann Ifill; Dame Billie Miller; Dr. George Belle; Robert ???Bobby??? Morris; Maurice Greenidge; Ralph Thorne; and Marilyn Rice Bowen.

During the day, a number of mini-lectures based on the book will also take place. Author George Lamming will begin these talks with an Overview of In the Castle of My Skin.

He will be followed by Historian Woodville Marshall, who will present on the Development of the Village in Barbados, while Professor Henry Fraser will give an Overview of Carrington Village ??? the predominant community featured in the book.

Other mini-lectures include: In the Castle of My Skin: Its Impact on Barbadian Literature by Literature Lecturer at the Barbados Community College, Jean Butcher-Lashley; the Society in Barbados during the Early Twentieth Century by Dr. Henderson Carter; and Race and Class in Barbados during the Twentieth Century by Historian Trevor Marshall.

The National Library Service will host an Open Day on Tuesday, October 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at its Fairchild Street Main Branch, Bridgetown. Persons who attend will get the opportunity to view the services provided by library. Throughout the day, lucky patrons will also receive surprises.

The 166th anniversary activities will culminate on Saturday, October 26, with Child???s Day, also at the Main Branch. Starting at 9:30 a.m., children will be treated to storytelling, puppetry and a lecture on bullying. The event will conclude at noon.
