Lecture on Preventing & Treating Cancers With Natural Remedies

When the University in the Community Lunchtime Lecture series continues this month its focus will be on: How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Remedy Therapies.

Hosted by the University of the West Indies Open Campus in collaboration with the Central Bank of Barbados, the lecture will be delivered by Dr. Ervin Davis, President of the Healthy Lifestyle Choices Global Institute in the Grande Salle of the Central Bank, Tom Adams Financial Centre, The City, next Thursday, October 10, beginning at noon.

Dr. Davis is based in Thomasville, Georgia, USA and is formerly of the Florida State University College of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre.

Week of Activities To Celebrate World Mental Health Day

The Psychiatric Hospital will be celebrating World Mental Health Day on Thursday, October 10, with a week of activities from Sunday, October 6, to Saturday, October 12.

This year???s theme is ???Mental Health and Older Adults???. The week will get started with a church service, at All Souls Anglican Church, Bank Hall, St. Michael, on Sunday, October 6, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The Hospital will host a Patient Appreciation Day at its Black Rock, St. Michael location on Wednesday, October 9, starting at 10:00 a.m. On Thursday, October 10, patients and staff will take part in a Sports Day on the grounds of the Hospital from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The week will end with a health fair at Heroes Square, The City, starting at 9:00 a.m. All are invited.

Protecting Property on Agenda For Crime Awareness Month

In marking the significance of Crime Awareness month, the National Task Force on Crime Prevention (NTFCP) will be hosting a number of activities to highlight various aspects of property crime.

Under the theme: Creating Awareness: Protecting Our Property Against??Crime, the events will see Charlie the Crime Stopper mascot visiting three primary schools, the first of which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 3, at the Wesley Hall Junior School, King Street, St. Michael beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Charlie will then visit students at the Belmont Primary School, Odessa McClean Road, Odessa McClean Drive, St. Michael on Thursday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m., and those at the St. Giles Primary School, Ivy, St. Michael, on Thursday, October 31, at 10:30 a.m.

Students of secondary schools will also have an opportunity to learn more about property crimes when officials from the NTFCP and officers from the Royal Barbados Police Force visit their institutions.

These visits will start with the Springer Memorial School, Government Hill, St. Michael on Friday, October 4, beginning at 9:45 a.m. before going on to the St. Leonard???s Boys??? Secondary School, Richmond Gap, St. Michael, on Friday, October 11 from noon, and conclude at the Lester Vaughn School, Cane Garden, St. Thomas on Friday, October 25, beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Stakeholders from the private and public sectors that play a pivotal role in combatting property crime will come together on Tuesday, October 22, at the Courtyard Marriott, Hastings, Christ Church, for a breakfast meeting beginning at 8:00 a.m. During this meeting the findings of the just released burglary study will also be discussed.
