Volunteers Needed For World Heritage Programme
Members of the public are being invited to volunteer for the World Heritage Programme, which is administered by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
Candidates should have an interest or a background in history or heritage studies and they should, ideally, have an outgoing personality.
The World Heritage Programme is responsible for coordinating activities within the properties of Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison. These include outdoor exhibitions, events, and public sensitsation sessions.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to be involved in these exciting activities. They will also receive instructions on the benefits of Barbados??? World Heritage inscription, the history of the area along with public engagement skills.

BADMC to Host Southern Farmers??? Market??
The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation is once again staging its Southern Farmers??? Market, under the theme ???Grow Local Buy Local???.
It will take place at the Fairy Valley Plantation House, located next to the DHL Building, Fairy Valley, Christ Church, on Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., each day.
Patrons will have the opportunity to purchase local fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and meats, along with jams, wines, sauces, fresh eggs, cassava and breadfruit flour, fresh milk, craft, jewellery and Bajan treats.??
There will also be blood pressure and blood sugar checks conducted by the Knight???s Health Advantage Club, as well as an educational programme and tour for school children.??
Schools interested in participating in the educational programme and tour, and farmers who wish to participate in the market are asked to contact Kelly Ann Gibson at 428-0250 as soon as possible.??
Panel Discussion to Address Failure Rates In Mathematics
Efforts are on to address failure rates in the Caribbean Examination Council???s (CXC) Mathematics programme.
Education officials have revealed that for the last three years, the regional pass rate in CXC Mathematics fell below 36 per cent, and the results in the Common Entrance Examination for that same period have been disappointing.
As a first step towards resolving these issues, the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) together with ConquerMaths Caribbean will host a panel discussion on the topic: The High Failure Rate of Mathematics in the Region – What’s the Problem and Where’s the Solution?
The discussion will be held next Monday, September 16, at the Alexandra Secondary School, Speightstown, St. Peter, from 7:00 p.m.
Panellists will include Acting Tutor at Erdiston Teacher’s Training College, Courtney Harewood: Principal of Graydon Sealy Secondary School, Mathew Farley; Acting Head of the Maths Department at Combermere School, Abigail Cumberbatch; Managing Director of ConquerMaths in the United Kingdom, Richard Hunter; and a representative of the Parent Teachers??? Association.
The moderator will be Deputy General Secretary of the BUT Anthony Alleyne.At the start of the discussion, Mr. Hunter will give a short introductory address on the theme Mathematics – An International Problem.
Education officers, curriculum planners, examiners, teachers, parents, students and all persons concerned about the status of Mathematics education in Barbados and the region are invited to attend.
