BADMC Office Closure This Thursday

The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation???s offices at the Princess Alice Highway, Spring Hall, The Food Promotion Unit at Fairy Valley as well as the Convenience and Liquor Stores at the Airport, will be closed at 12:30 p.m. this Thursday, October 3.

The closure is necessary in order to facilitate a staff function.

Patrons are advised that the Convenience and Liquor stores at the airport will, however, reopen for business at 5:30 p.m., while business will resume at all other locations on Friday, October 4, at 8:15 a.m.

The BADMC has apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Trade Facilitation Focus of Workshop

This country???s trade facilitation needs and priorities will be assessed when the Ministry of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, in association with the World Trade Organisation (WTO), hosts a four-day workshop, from October 14 to 17 at the Courtyard Marriott, Hastings, Christ Church.

According to a Ministry official: ???The principal objective of the assessment is to review Barbados??? trade facilitation measures. It is also anticipated that this will assist the country in accessing the special provisions for developing countries at the WTO.???

These special provisions will provide for extended trade facilitation implementation schedules as well as access to technical assistance and capacity building support.

Participants at the workshop will include representatives from the private sector and key Government agencies.

International Business Week, October 20 to 26

Under the theme International Business Barbados???Embrace the Opportunities, the international business sector will be celebrated from October 20 to 26, with a host of activities.

Beginning Sunday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m., the week will commence with divine worship at St. Dominic???s Catholic Church, Maxwell, Christ Church. And, Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss, will deliver remarks.

On Tuesday, October 22, commencing at 8:30 a.m., at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, a forum for business students and other interested students in fifth and sixth forms, will be held to give young people a platform to learn more about the international business sector from a range of business professionals.

That same evening at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, starting at 7:00 p.m., there will be a Public Discussion Forum featuring experts from within the sector.

The next day, Wednesday, October 23, a Career Showcase will take place on the Guild Lawn, at the UWI, Cave Hill Campus from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.

The curtain will come down on the week with a two-day International Business Conference from Thursday, October 24, to Friday, October 25. The conference will feature speakers from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Thursday???s session will kick off from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday???s session will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Christ Church East Central Council Launching Garden Project

The Christ Church East Central Constituency Council, in association with the Ministry of Agriculture, will launch its Backyard Garden Project, this Saturday, October 5, at the Wotton Housing Area, Christ Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Council is inviting residents of the constituency to attend and view the presentation where officials of the Ministry of Agriculture will demonstrate how to plant, irrigate and take care of food crops.

The activity is designed to encourage members of the community to grow and eat more local products which could help reduce their food bills and, at the same, improve their health.

St. Philip West Environmental Panel Discussion

In an effort to design environmental projects and programmes for communities within St. Philip West, the Constituency Council is inviting residents to an Environmental Assessment Panel Discussion.

The session will take place this Sunday, October 6, at the Princess Margaret Secondary School Hall, Six Roads, St. Philip, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Residents will be given an opportunity to propose initiatives which could enhance their environment, while representatives from environmental organisations will be on hand to conduct presentations.

Maintenance Work on Richard Haynes Boardwalk from October

Members of the public are advised that scheduled maintenance will be carried out at the Richard Haynes Boardwalk over the next two months, beginning on Monday, October 7.

Maintenance work will be carried out on the boardwalk by John Edwards Contracting Inc., between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Work is expected to start from Accra Beach to the Coconut Court Hotel, and will be executed in stages.

Work being carried out will involve the removal of sand from under the Ipe decking, the replacement of damaged decking and the refastening of loose screws.

Members of the public are asked to follow the signs on display and comply with instructions and security measures by personnel on hand for their own safety.
