First formers in public and private secondary schools across the island stand to benefit from a generous donation of 4,000 geometry sets from Infra Equipment Rentals, a construction tools and equipment rental company, located in Black Bess, St Peter.
General Manager, Michael Graham, in presenting them to Education Minister Ronald Jones, said his team decided it would give something back to the community by undertaking a drive called ???Kids are Our Stars???.
???We were approached by a secondary school parent who was looking for some assistance with getting a geometry set for her child and we decided after that why don???t we just get geometry sets for everybody that was entering the first form,??? Mr. Graham explained.
He noted that acquiring geometry sets was sometimes difficult for the families of many of the students, and his company wanted to ensure that ???no child is left out or disadvantaged???.
The team from Infra Equipment Rentals Ltd has committed to distributing the geometry sets to each school across ???11 parishes in 11 days???, to reach the total of 26 schools.
Minister Jones thanked Mr. Graham saying: ???This effort by Infra Equipment Rentals under its ???Kids are Our Stars??? initiative says something to us about the work of the company as it reaches out.
“For something to have started at such a basic and to blossom into this, which is quite a significant approach, gets the blessings of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.???
After the drive, there will be competitions and games, including the chance for students to win one of 10 Asus tablets. Welcoming this aspect, Mr. Jones revealed that over the next few years secondary schools would be migrating to the level of utilising tablets.
The Minister further noted that he had already told principals of public secondary schools that ???those who had the wherewithal now did not have to wait??? but could start the migration from books to a digital format.
