In light of the fact that the Influenza A (H1N1) virus could pose life-threatening problems for pregnant women, persons with diabetes, asthma, heart disease and sickle cell anaemia, as well as morbid obesity, the Ministry of Health is urging persons with these conditions to get vaccinated and protect themselves.

The vaccination campaign, targeted at this group, started this week, with the vaccine available at all eight polyclinics across the island and the St. John Outpatient Clinic.

The Influenza A (H1N1) vaccine is absolutely free of charge.

Healthcare workers in both the public and private sectors, frontline staff of the air and seaports, members of the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Barbados Defence Force and the Barbados Fire Service are also reminded to get immunised.

The times for vaccination at the health care institutions are 8:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Randal Phillips, Black Rock and Maurice Byer Polyclinics; 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the St. Philip, Glebe, Warrens and Edgar Cochrane Polyclinics; from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Winston Scott Polyclinic and from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the St. John Outpatients Clinic.
