Ghana is a symbol of good government and good governance in West Africa and throughout the African continent.????

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, made this assertion during a courtesy call on Tuesday, from the High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. David Sarpong Boateng, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Culloden Road, St. Michael.

She called for Barbados and Ghana to develop a stronger and closer relationship, noting that there were several areas for bilateral cooperation between the nations.??

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Minister acknowledged that both Ghana and Barbados invested heavily in their human resources and she emphasised: "The current world economic crisis has demonstrated the importance of developing countries working together."

In turn, the Ghanaian High Commissioner, who is resident in Cuba, outlined education, culture, trade and tourism as possible sectors for collaboration, stating: "Our countries have a lot in common – [such as our] identities and beliefs."

Mr. Sarpong Boateng pointed out that like Barbados education was a major priority for the Government of Ghana.?? According to him, that West African country focused on five principles: investing in educating the population; investing in infrastructure; modernising agriculture – to ensure the food security of the nation; investing in health care and maintaining good governance.

Barbados established diplomatic relations with Ghana in 1994.
