The Barbados Community College, in association with CISCO Systems Inc., will host the Girls Power Tech 2019 – Breaking Barriers… Shaping Girls in ICT event on Thursday, May 23, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The college will be joining more than 1,500 CISCO Systems Inc. partners and mentors igniting interest in “Tech” education and careers for over 4,500 female students around the world.

The event is expected to “move girls beyond play to become more comfortable and curious enough to choose an area of study and or pursue a career in Information Communication Technology (ICT)”.

Girls Power Tech, a part of CISCO Systems Inc.’s Global Mentoring Initiative, is a special learning opportunity which allows female students to connect with ICT professionals around the world.

Celebrated in support of the annual United Nations’ Girls in ICT Day, Girls Power Tech has inspired girls and young women to consider educational and career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

It is opened to female students aged 13 to 15 from both public and private secondary schools. Eighty young ladies, along with mentors in various disciplines, will be participating in the event.
