As part of its GIS Cares outreach activities, the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) recently presented a monetary donation as well as food items to the HIV/AIDS Food Bank at the AIDS Information Centre, Ministry of Health.

Information Officer and Chairperson of the BGIS’ HIV/AIDS Committee, Esther Jones, said that the funds were collected during the year from the organisation’s recycling drive.

“Everyone brings in their recycled products, which are collected by B’s Bottle Depot. This fundraiser benefits both the environment by reducing items that would have gone to the landfill and by taking that money and giving it to those living with or affected by HIV,” Ms. Jones stated.

Apart from the BGIS, Maxor Vacation Services, Unified Martial Arts Academy, Austin’s Bar, Simmons Land, Christ Church and Jacqueline Jordan also contributed to the worthy cause by presenting the proceeds from their own recycling programmes.

Community Nutrition Officer with the HIV/AIDS Food Bank, Donna Barker, thanked the BGIS for its donation and praised the department for its continued contributions.
