Temporary Permits for Crop Over Events Needed

The Environmental Health Department of the Branford Taitt Polyclinic has advised persons requiring temporary permits for staging Crop Over events that the closing date for applications is Friday, July 19.

Part of the process of vetting will include the inspection of the premises and the issuance of advice on all aspects of food safety, from construction through preparation and transportation to setting up and serving at the events. Officers of the department will be inspecting food vending operations to ensure that the high standards of food safety and public health in general are met and if possible, surpassed.??


Health Expo at Branford Taitt Polyclinic

A health expo will be staged from July 22 to July 26 at the Branford Taitt Polyclinic, Black Rock, St. Michael, and will feature lecture/discussions in addition to demonstrations on food safety. These sessions will be conducted daily from 6.00 to 8.00 p.m. under the direction of officers from the Environmental Health Department (EHD), the Barbados Fire Service, Sanitation Service Authority and the Royal Barbados Police Force.

On Monday, July 22, there will be an opening ceremony at the polyclinic, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Specially invited guests will include Minister of Health, John Boyce; Minister of Industry and Small Business, Donville Inniss; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joy St. John, acting Chief Executive
Officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Cranston Brown; and Chief Environmental Health Officer, Tyrone Applewhaite.

During the ceremony, presentations will be made to several stakeholders who have been willing partners in the delivery of the expo from its inception; the owners of the two best designed and laid-out stalls during the 2012 Crop Over festival as chosen by the staff of the EHD. All are invited.??


Food Permits from Eunice Gibson Polyclinic

All persons selling food at this year???s Crop Over events must get the necessary permits to do so.

This will include Food handlers, Operators and Attendants of foodstalls and Concessionaires of Kadooment Bands involved in the Crop Over Festival at the National Stadium and its environs, as well as Bank Hall Cross Roads.

Operators of foodstalls and bars must apply for a temporary restaurant permit at the Environmental Health Department (EHD) at the Eunice Gibson (formerly Warrens) Polyclinic, no later than Friday, July 19.

This is necessary in order to facilitate the timely processing of applications as well as to execute a thorough monitoring and surveillance of all premises and facilities where food will be prepared and stored.

All those involved in the preparation, transportation, storage and service of food at the stalls, bars or off premises, must be in possession of a valid Medical Certificate of Health and this should be submitted when applying for a permit on or before July 19. The permit should be available for inspection when the Environmental Health Officers make routine inspections during the festival.

There will be an educational session for all Operators, Concessionaires and Food Handlers on Thursday, July 18, at the polyclinic, Warrens, St. Michael from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
