Secondary school students across the island will from next week receive sound advice on preparing themselves for the world of work and developing life- skills.
This is as a result of the Ministry of Labour’s GIVE programme for schools, which uses drama as a tool to instill the core values of punctuality, protection of property, pleasant personality, perfect attendance, and positive attitude.
GIVE, an acronym for Great attitudes, Initiative, Values and Excellence, is the Labour Ministry’s contribution to the National Initiative for Service Excellence.
The programme focuses on several areas of professional conduct including attitude, attendance, honesty and integrity, deportment, performance, communication and customer service.
The schools which will be involved in the programme are: Queen’s College, Husbands, St. James, on Wednesday, September 29; St. James Secondary, Trents, St. James, on Tuesday, October 5; the Alleyne Secondary, Belleplaine, St. Andrew on Wednesday, October 6; the Seventh Day Adventists School, Dalkeith, St. Michael, on Wednesday, October 27; and the Ellerslie Secondary, Black Rock, St. Michael, on Friday, October 29.
The presentations will take place during morning assembly from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
The programme, which is now in its fourth year, has travelled to some 30 primary and secondary schools across Barbados. askeete@barbados.gov.bb
