Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has reiterated Government???s commitment to create a better Barbados that is just and prosperous.
While addressing the 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Installation Ceremony of the Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination over the weekend, Mr. Stuart said a number of initiatives had been put in place over the years to ensure it became a reality.
He told his audience: ???For example, we have formulated a National Youth Policy to protect and empower our youth; and a National Policy on Ageing to protect the elderly. We have passed legislation to strengthen and empower communities in every constituency; and in light of the prolonged economic downturn we are facilitating the spread of the entrepreneurial culture as a means of diversifying and growing the economy to finance essential services and worthy causes.???
The Prime Minister said, however, that Government had been taught in an unforgettable way, that no matter how noble the intentions nor how much they wanted to practice philanthropy, they could not do so unless they had the resources to dispense. He added that Government could not do it alone and welcomed service clubs, like the Kiwanis, as important partners.
Mr. Stuart commended the members of the Kiwanis Club for setting high standards and vigorously promoting the movement???s high ideas. He pointed out that the Club???s overall objective had always been to create a more just society by responding morally and imaginatively to changing circumstances and needs.
