Government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing cooperation in the area of culture with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, made this pledge on Tuesday evening at the opening of a concert featuring Chinese folk music at the Frank Collymore Hall.

Mr. Lashley noted that Barbados signed a cultural agreement with China in June 1980 in an effort to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation, as well as further promote the development of cultural exchanges.

"Since that date, there have been cultural exchanges between the two countries, although distance still presents a challenge for us in terms of funding such visits," he told his audience.

The event was held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both Governments and it featured the Shenzhen Aihua Arts Troupe.
