Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has reiterated Government’s commitment to facilitating investment in this country.

Ms. Mottley made the comments on Tuesday night as she addressed the re-opening ceremony and cocktail event of The Palm Terrace Restaurant of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel, in St. James.

She told her audience: “Our business as a nation is to foster investment at small and large levels and the Government is committed to being able to facilitate that investment, wherever it is possible. I was happy to be able to visit here last year, I believe, to see how best we can work to ensure that we can continue to expand existing businesses while creating the environment to foster the creation of new businesses.”

The Prime Minister expressed the view that the country must “up its game” in its quest to become world class.

She stressed that it was necessary, not only to construct new buildings, but also to invest in the training of citizens, so the best service could be delivered.

She thanked The Fairmont Royal Pavilion Group, saying she was aware the owners were interested in expanding their presence, in the tourism sector, in Barbados.

“We are working with you; it is too early for us to speak to the full details, but sufficed to say that for me as Prime Minister of this nation, it is an absolute statement of confidence in what we are doing, that we are going in the right direction….

“As we go in the right direction, that we do two things, carry our people along financially by creating opportunities for investment for ordinary Barbadians … and equally, as we move along, that the national training initiative allows each and every one of us to up our game ….,” she stressed.

Ms. Mottley opined that Barbadians must ask themselves if they were doing their best, or if they could improve.

“More often than not, we can do better….  I know as a nation we can dig down deep and keep going again, and why?  Because people in the world have choices and we want to be able to command their interest,” she said.

The Prime Minister proffered the view that by offering the best quality to these people, it could assist in securing a firm pathway towards prosperity for citizens of this country.

She also underscored the importance of improving productivity in the nation.
