The Barbados Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the One China Policy and its mutual respect for each other as the two countries explore other opportunities to strengthen relations.

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, made this observation yesterday during the official signing ceremony for four loan agreements at Government Headquarters. The funds will be used for projects to be mutually agreed to by both countries.??

He intimated that the long-standing relationship between Beijing and Bridgetown had grown by ???leaps and bounds’ and was undergirded by a mutual respect for each other.

"What binds us together is our mutual respect for our political environments in which we operate and our systems….Barbados being a liberal democratic society and China being a well-established political state; to the extent that Barbados has an unshakable position that it adopts in its foreign policy of recognising its One China Policy.

In turn, Chinese Ambassador, Wei Qiang, said the ceremony was further evidence of strides by his country to enhance the relationship between the two countries.?? "It is a very firm Chinese government policy to enhance and boost in a win-win fashion, our unity and mutual beneficial cooperation with all and every fellow developing nation in the world, especially at this time when we are facing a dire and pretty lingering worldwide financial crisis and many economic circumstances,"?? he surmised.
