Government, in collaboration with the United States Agency International Development (USAID), has embarked on a ‘Ridge to Reef’ project.

According to Project Manager in the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, Ricardo Marshall, the ‘Ridge to Reef Project’ known as the Water Resource Management and Flood Resilience Climate Change Adaptation Programme, will incorporate both hard and soft engineering works, which are designed to address both flood alleviation and groundwater augmentation.

As part of the project guidelines, a study (Adaptation Measures to Counter the Effects of Climate Change with a Focus on Water Resource Management and Flood Resilience) was completed in December 2017, and based on the findings, a number of key areas within Barbados were identified for infrastructure works, including Holetown and Trents in St. James.

On Monday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m. the ministry will officially launch its website and start construction for the Water Resource Management and Flood Resilience Climate Change Adaptation Programme.
