The Ministry of Civil Service (MCS) is on a mission to develop key E-government initiatives in an effort to give Barbadians greater and easier access to government information and services.

This disclosure has come from Acting E-government Development Officer, Haseley Straughn, who said the Barbados E-government Programme would result in a totally new way of doing business for the Barbados Public Service.

???For E-government to be successful, all of our ministries and agencies will need to introduce major changes in business processes, organisational structures and technology.??We will have to learn new skills and competencies and work assiduously to raise our service standards to new levels,??? Mr. Straughn stated.

He noted that the Ministry of Civil Service is currently conducting an e-survey which would assist his team in prioritising the e-services which would make the public???s experience with government easier, faster and more convenient.

To access the e-survey, members of the public must log on to www.reform.gov.bb/egov. They may also call Mr. Straughn for further information at 535-4457 or email haseley.straughn@barbados.gov.bb.

Mr. Straughn explained that the E-government Strategy which was approved by Cabinet in 2006 was now being revised to reflect the current state of ICT in the public sector and the changes in technology.

???The MCS has retained the services of Deloitte to develop a new E-government Master Plan for the public sector. The stakeholder consultation process has already begun and key components for the Master Plan were identified,??? he disclosed.

He listed some of those strategic areas as: Citizen and Business Centric Digital Solutions; Service Innovation across Channels; Cyber security, Data sharing and Privacy legislation; and Governance.
