In response to the most recent complaints by residents of Green Hill about dust emanating from the nearby Rayside Quarry, Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe, has promised an immediate investigation.

Responding to recent press enquiries today, Minister Lowe, speaking following the launch of the University of the West Indies’ Recycling Initiative, said Government’s Environmental Protection Department will be looking into the matter.

“Anytime there is a concern within the public domain relative to environmental health and wellness, Government must respond. The Ministry has a responsibility to respond to those issues, and to respond quickly, to ensure that the health and wellness of the citizens are not put at risk because of any commercial or non-commercial activity,” the Minister said.

Minister Lowe stressed that Government could not to put forward a position without a full investigation.

“Our Environmental Protection Department will give some attention to it, and will try to come up with a strategy to minimise or alleviate the concerns. It will be looked at, I assure you,” he said.
