Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, today reiterated his ministry’s commitment to the success of Ambassador Ryan Brathwaite.

He told the world champion 110 metres gold medal hurdler that Government had made a number of undertakings at his homecoming last September, after the athletic meet in Berlin, which would be honoured.

Ambassador Brathwaite paid a courtesy call on Mr. Lashley at his office in the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael.

The outstanding athlete said he was pleased with his preparations for the 2011 World Championships in South Korea and 2012 Olympics in London. He disclosed that he had already learnt "some new things in track" and that he would be competing in the national championships, to be held here in June.

During the discussions, Ambassador Brathwaite expressed a desire to facilitate clinics for athletes and Mr. Lashley said such a move would have his blessings, since he had recently stated that Government would have to assist with the CARIFTA athletes’ continuous training.

The Sports Minister and gold medal hurdler talked about several other issues, including the track at the National Stadium.

Ambassador Brathwaite recently won his first race for the season at the Texas Relay Invitational meet and is expected to compete in the Diamond League later this year.

He leaves Barbados this Thursday, April 15, for the United States of America.
