Minister of International Business nd International Transport, George Hutson (FP)

A sickout by LIAT pilots over the past 36 hours has led to the disruption of travel in the Caribbean and resulted in the displacement of passengers across the region.

In a statement issued today by the Minister of International Business and International Transport, George Hutson, he voiced his concerns on the matter and offered an apology to the thousands of passengers "who have been affected through no fault of their own".

He stated: "My Ministry, and, by extension, Barbados as the largest shareholder of LIAT, has been in close contact with the Board and Management of LIAT and will keep the public informed as developments occur."

The International Transport Minister also said that he has been in contact with Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart, "who has also been in consultation with his colleague shareholder Prime Ministers, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Baldwin Spencer, ??of Antigua and Barbuda and together they are working towards a workable solution".

Mr. Hutson announced that a number of options had been presented to ferry passengers to their destinations, and said that LIAT management was working with both Caribbean Airlines and Redjet to see this to fruition.
