Five charities got an early Christmas gift from Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, as she divided her winning $10,000 “lottery” among them during a brief ceremony at Government House yesterday.

The Governor General won the lottery as one of the activities held to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Maria Holder Memorial Trust

The charities were: The Challenor Creative Arts and Training Centre; the Barbados Boy Scouts Association; the Ermine Holmes Community Trust; the Royal Commonwealth Society – Barbados Branch; and the Girl Guides Association of Barbados.

Dame Sandra thanked the Maria Holder Memorial Trust for allowing her to take the $10,000 and “happily give the funds to the organizations”.

She explained that all the organizations, with the exception of the Challenor Creative Arts and Training Centre, were chosen based on her association with them over the years.

The Governor General said she was invited to be a part of the centre, but was unable to take it up due to other commitments.
