Lovers of poetry, jazz and nature will be in for a double treat over the next two Saturdays when the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with ArtsEtc., stages a series of ???Green Readings’ as part of this year’s Environment Month celebrations.

They will be held on the Hastings Boardwalk against the scenic backdrop of the island’s South Coast, in the area behind Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

Scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m., early-bird patrons can, however, look forward to an added bonus in the form of a jazz interlude which will get under way from 3:00 p.m.

Featured poets for this Saturday, June 13, include: Mark Jason Welch, a writer, actor and winner of the Prime Minister’s and Irving Burgie Scholarship Awards, the 2007 Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Award and 2008 Kamau Brathwaite Award for Poetry.

Heather Barker, a communications professional and the 2008 recipient of the George Lamming Prize for Literary Excellence, as well as James Carmichael, a past winner of the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Award will also be featured.

On June 20, patrons will enjoy the work of Gregory Fitt, a multiple NIFCA awardee, author and storyteller and Karen Lorde, a research consultant and the winner of the 2008 Frank Collymore Literary Endowment.

Robert Edison Sandiford an author, recipient of the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Literary Arts and coordinator of the event, will also be performing.

If poetry, jazz and the ambience of the South Coast is not enough, patrons can also look forward to refreshments and complimentary wine tasting to complete the evening.
