Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dr. William Duguid, has broken ground on a house building programme that will see the National Housing Corporation (NHC) constructing 15 homes at Todds, St. George.

Stating that his Ministry was “very happy and proud” to begin the project, Dr. Duguid disclosed that the 15 lots available are to be developed by 15 contractors, who submitted tenders and were awarded contracts to build the housing solutions.

The completed two-bedroom, one-bathroom houses with land, will range from $145,000 dollars to $180,000, depending on the design, on lots of between 3,500 and 4,100 square feet.

The Housing Minister gave his commitment to building “hundreds of housing solutions” for Barbadians, including areas that already have roads, for example Lower Burney, St. Michael; Coconut Hall, St. Lucy; and Concordia Gardens, St. Philip.

“Everything is working on a parallel track, so while we’re developing and designing on one lot, on the other lot, roads are going in, on the other lot we’re building so everything is happening. We have to put people to work and that is my main focus every day,” he emphasised.

Also in attendance at the ground breaking ceremony was Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland.
