The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is pressing ahead with its mandate to provide quality education to Barbadians from an early age and to this end will break ground this Friday, July 2, for the construction of a new $1.5 million nursery school.

The Sharon Nursery School, which is expected to house approximately 120 students, will be erected at Lot B, Sharon, St. Thomas, adjacent to the Sharon Primary School.?? It is a joint venture between the Government of Barbados and the Maria Holder Memorial Trust, which is providing funding for the project.??

Constitution of the school is set to be completed by March 2011 and will boast an amphitheatre, nutrition area, and children’s play area, along with the administrative block and staff rooms.??

Green technology will also feature prominently in the design of the school, which will have solar water heaters; some areas powered electrically through the use of solar panels; a water storage tank for the collection of rain water from the roof for secondary use; and the use of lead and mercury free paint. kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
