When the Barbados Mental Health Association and Support Network meets again at the end of the month, the group will examine the issue of “Living with Depression.”

The topic will be presented by Psychiatrist, Dr. Sharon Harvey who will be joined in discussion by a person ‘living with depression’ as well as a relative dealing with an individual of undergo depression.

The lecture/discussion will take place at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Jemmott’s Lane St. Michael on Thursday, July 31 from 7:00 p.m.

Individuals with a special interest in mental health, as well as those suffering from depression and their care-givers are especially invited to attend this lecture/discussion.

The Barbados Mental Health Association and Support Network was launched in April to meet the challenges experienced by persons suffering with mental illnesses and their care-givers, to identify their various needs and ensure a ready forum for meeting and discussing any related issue.

According to President of the Association and Senior Psychiatric Social Worker, Geoffrey Small, these outreach programmes are expected to continue in various communities across the island. He said: “It is time that Barbadians begin to identify with their illnesses – whether diabetes, prostate cancer or depression – and be able to speak publicly and frankly about it.  It will help reverse the thinking and allow persons to live more comfortably with it.”
