A better understanding of the creole culture of Guadeloupe is what students at the Barbados Community College (BCC) can expect on Friday, May 20, when that institution plays host to the Guadeloupean entity, Get FWI, on its compound at “Eyrie”, Howells Cross Road, St. Michael.

The Get FWI team will undertake a series of cultural workshops for students in the Language faculty as well as the Division of Fine Arts.

The first workshop, which will be held from 8:30 until 10:00 a.m., will provide a background to creole in Guadeloupe.  It targets second year students in the Associate Degree programme in French for Business and Tourism and will be conducted on the First Floor, Room 204/205 of the BCC Language Centre.

Later, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the team will hold a Gwoka Workshop for music students in the Division of Fine Arts. With its focus on drumming as an art form in Guadeloupe, it will be conducted in the Performing Hall, obliquely opposite the BCC Language Centre.

A repeat of the first workshop on the background of creole in Guadeloupe will occur from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m., in the Language Centre.  This seminar is aimed at students in the first year group of the Associate Degree programme in French for Business and Tourism.
