Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy espoused the importance of discipline, perseverance and hard work as the keys to success in life and academia.
He made these observations today during a "pep talk" with class four students of the George Lamming Primary School who will be writing this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE), tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7.
Mr. Sealy told the students: "Everything in life is about preparation and in wishing you good luck, and all the best with the Examination, I want you to use this process as a standard or a benchmark that would apply in all your future endeavours.?? So, when you go to secondary school there will be other examinations…When you go to university you will have other examinations there, but guess what, when you leave school you will still have exams."
The Minister also urged the students when they move on to their new schools to carry the values learnt at George Lamming Primary with them throughout their lives.??
"This is an excellent school with a good foundation and good teachers and I would hope that all the principles, standards and discipline that have been imparted, you now have to impart that on yourself because you will not have these teachers anymore," Mr. Sealy emphasised.
The Tourism Minister also fielded questions and engaged the eager pupils in robust conversation as he reminisced about his days in the classroom.
Meanwhile, the Principal, Philip Roach, thanked Mr. Sealy for his words of advice to the students and praised him for going the extra mile.
A total of 3, 968 students will write this year’s BSSEE compared with 3, 961 students in 2012 and 3, 811 in 2011.
