In an effort to address the health concerns of staff within the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, the Internal HIV Committee will host a health expo, next Friday, April 8.

Dubbed Your Health and You, the event will take place in the car park of the Administration Block, Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

A key aim of the Expo is to bring together staff of the Ministry and its external agencies to learn about health, particularly sexual health and how it affects them. It is expected that persons would be more informed and take the necessary steps towards changing behaviours.

The event will showcase a number of health organisations including the Dental Health Association, The Barbados Family Planning Association, The Cancer Support Services, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Psychiatric Hospital, ??Winston Scott Polyclinic, The National Council on Substance Abuse, Jenn’s Health and Beauty Supplies and Ocean 2 Fitness.

Along with the regular cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure testing, there will be voluntary counselling and testing for HIV; a demonstration on the use of alternative medicine; as well as exercises, including the ???Kettle Bell’, a new fitness technique.

A number of stakeholders have also been invited including the National HIV/AIDS Commission, the School Meals Department, Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and the Barbados Community College.?? Officers from the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth will also be present as youth will be performing throughout the day, providing ???edutainment’ through the Youth Achieving Results programme.

Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, will cut the ribbon signalling the official start of the health expo at 10.00 a.m.
