The Environmental Health Department of the Brandford Taitt Polyclinic will once again conduct a Health Expo to sensitise concessioners working during Crop Over in the Black Rock and Spring Garden areas, on the best way to handle food.
The Expo, which is entitled Public Health Safety in the Sweet Summer Festival, will be held next week on the grounds of the Polyclinic in Black Rock, from Monday, July 23, to Thursday, July 26.??
This year’s session will focus on all vendors, stall holders and food handlers – with particular emphasis on new entrants, and aims to highlight the need to preserve wholesomeness and health.
Environmental Health Officers have been assigned to lecture and disseminate information each day to participants on a number of topics, including Food Hygiene, which will cover stall construction, personal hygiene and methods to keep food at the correct temperatures; and vector control.?? Personnel from the Royal Barbados Police Force, Sanitation Service Authority and the Barbados Fire Service will also participate in the sessions.
Over 300 persons have applied to provide food on Spring Garden, while some 200 have submitted applications to ply their trade in the Black Rock area.?? The Expo will also accommodate those persons who will operate the routes in the Warrens and Winston Scott catchment areas.
