As part of its continuing efforts to educate Barbadians on ways to combat Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs), the Warrens Polyclinic will host a health fair next Saturday, June 23.??

The community outreach activity will take place at the Natural Heritage Department, Sturges, St. Thomas, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., under the theme Jump Start Your Health, and aims to educate and empower persons in relation to their health, and to detect any indication of disease in apparently healthy individuals.

Staff at the Polyclinic will offer Blood Sugar Testing and Blood Pressure Monitoring, Body Mass Index Screening, HIV Testing and Counseling and Immunisations.?? There will also be a display and sampling of healthy homemade drinks and breads, along with aerobic and line dancing sessions and educational discussions.

CNCDs are a direct result of lifestyle choices such as high fat, high sugar and high salt diets, as well as a sedentary lifestyle. Instances of such diseases and the resultant increase in mortality rates have been on the rise over the past two decades.??
