COVID-19 News briefing with Public Advisor, David Ellis. (PMO)

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is encouraging persons to continue being tested for COVID-19 as they monitor the situation .

Director of the Best-Dos-Santos Public Health Laboratory, Dr. The Most Honourable Songee Beckles, gave this advice this morning during a press conference at Ilaro Court. She noted that there had been a decrease in the number of persons coming forward to be tested.

“In the height of this third wave having close to 2,500 tests performed on a daily basis… Currently, we are down to almost half of that, between 1300 and 1 500 daily. So, the numbers of persons coming forward for testing has decreased a bit and I think that may be reflective in terms of what is going on nationally. So therefore, there are persons, who may be sick or have a need for coming forward to be tested. But we will continue to monitor that situation,” she said.

Stressing that persons needed to know their status, Dr. Beckles noted that the Best- Dos- Santos laboratory is still operating at its optimum.

“We’re doing quite well in terms of being able to handle all the samples that are coming in. We do have enough staff and enough reagent to continue doing testing for our national consumption,” stressed the Laboratory’s Director.
