When Agrofest 2012 opens its doors to the public this weekend, messages on the benefits of salt reduction and healthy eating will feature prominently throughout Queen’s Park.

This was revealed today by Chairman of the National Non-Communicable Diseases Commission, Professor Trevor Hassell, while speaking at the launch of a jingle to promote salt reduction at the Ministry of Health.

Noting that the objective of the Commission at the event would be to highlight the relationship between agriculture and chronic disease prevention, the health official said that the group would be "showing persons how to do healthy eating".

He explained that there will be sign posts with health messages placed throughout Queen’s Park, as well as street theatre acts addressing chronic diseases. Members of the Commission will also be wearing brightly coloured T-shirts promoting messages like ???Cut Down on Salt’ and ???Eat More Fibre and Fruits’.

The booth itself will have health information to be distributed in the form of posters and leaflets; healthy snacks; cooking demonstrations; and interactive games for children, with prizes to be won.??

Persons visiting Agrofest will also see some fun ways to exercise as the Commission will partner with the National Task Force on Physical Activity to showcase Line Dancing, Kettle Bell demonstrations and Zumba dancing.??

Agrofest begins this Friday, February 24, and will end on Sunday, February 26.
