Walkers and runners are being encouraged to get into shape in preparation for the Natural Heritage Department???s (NHD) 12th annual De Heart Uh Barbados 10K Run and 5K walk.

Now in its 12th year, this year???s event will form part of the global week-long celebrations of the environment and will take place on Saturday, June 7, and will start and finish at the Project House, No. 1 Sturges, St. Thomas, with the Run beginning at 6:00 a.m. and the Walk at 6:15 a.m.

Those participating in this year???s event are asked to register early as no same day registration will be allowed. Registration forms are available from the Surfside Gym, National Sports Council, the Gymnasium, Little League Gym and the NHD, and must be returned by Thursday, June 5.

The event, which is designed to get the community involved in physical activity will leave Sturges, St. Thomas and move along Highway Two A; pass the Sturges Plantation; onto Bloombury; Orchard; Canefield Road pass the Challenor School and the Canefield Plantation; Fortress Hill; Lion Castle Tenantry; pass the St. Thomas Post Office onto 2nd Avenue Welchman Hall; Bryan Road; onto Allen View before climaxing on the NHD grounds, also in St. Thomas.

Prizes are for the first, second and third male and female walkers and runners. This year???s races will commemorate the International Year of Small Island Developing States being celebrated globally under the theme: Small Island Developing States and Climate Change.
