Renowned historian and member of the Stamp Advisory Committee, Warren Alleyne has been honoured by the Barbados Postal Service (BPS) for his "outstanding contribution" to this organisation.??

Alleyne has been a voluntary member of the stamp advisory committee for nearly 25 years, a time in which, according to Post Master General, Joel Brathwaite, he has "always given yeomen and quality service".

Conferring the award on behalf of the BPS staff, Mr. Brathwaite recalled that "in 1985, at the death of a former member of our Stamp Advisory Committee, Mr. Alleyne was recommended as a replacement; he was asked and he accepted this vacant position, which is a totally voluntary one, and speaks to Mr. Alleyne’s willingness to serve".

"From that time until now, this organisation has been favoured by Mr. Alleyne’s meaningful and historical input to its stamp production," said Mr. Brathwaite.

He presented the awardee with a framed First Day Cover carrying a set of stamps from the Aircraft 2008 issue.?? Mr. Alleyne is featured on the 50 cent stamp, which commemorated Aircraft 2008 in celebrating the Barbados Concorde Experience and the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force, of which he was a member from 1944 to 1962.

Mr. Alleyne was awarded the Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct medal for his 18 years of exemplary service.

Pointing to the historian’s return to Barbados in 1966, Mr. Brathwaite said that Mr. Alleyne had authored and co-authored many historical books on Barbados and the Caribbean including ???Caribbean Pirates’ and ???Historic Barbados’.

Mr. Brathwaite contended that Warren Alleyne’s life is one that has been "dedicated to service", and "the sharing of knowledge", adding that his several writings "have linked this country and the Post Office to the international arena".
