The public is invited to attend a lecture entitled Historic Core Cities – Lessons for Contemporary Sustainability, which will be held at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, St. Ann’s Garrison, St. Michael on Monday, June 24 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

It will be delivered by Research Fellow and Member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Jeff Soule.

The lecture is being hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in association with the Embassy of the United States of America and the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, as part of Heritage Month activities.

Mr. Soule, who lectures internationally at the Universities of Cambridge, Imperial College and Beijing, has written extensively on planning issues related to China’s urbanisation.??

He was a principal planner for over 15 international demonstration projects, some of which included new town planning, strategic environmental planning, historic preservation, scenic highways, green industry and cultural tourism.??

The lecturer was a senior member for the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) grant in the US Department of State, and is responsible for building sustainable cities’ capacity throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mr. Soule has extensive experience in comprehensive urban planning, strategic city positioning, urban form and design, historic preservation and cultural conservation, natural resource conservation, small town and rural development, citizen participation and scenic resource management.
