Teenagers in Barbados will soon receive additional information on how they can protect themselves from the dreaded HIV virus when the Bureau of Gender Affairs hosts a one-day workshop.

It will be held from 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16, in the Conference Room of the Barbados Public Workers’ Cooperative Credit Union, Belmont Road, St. Michael, under the theme "HIV/AIDS among the Youth". Young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who are interested in participating in the seminar should contact the Bureau at 310-2104, 310-2107 or 310-2109 by Thursday, August 12.

Topics to be discussed during the day are: "Gender Dynamics of HIV/AIDS", "Peer Pressure/Self-Esteem Behavioural Change" and "STIs and HIV". There will also be a panel discussion on "Public Perceptions about Youth and Sex".

The objective of the workshop is to impress upon the minds of the youth the need for behavioural change. saustin@barbados.gov.bb
