Government’s Community Development Department, through its HIV/AIDS Education Committees, will be hosting a series of activities during the coming weeks aimed at promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, sensitisation and education.

The activities commence this Saturday, November 29, with a Health Fair put on by the Bonnetts/Brittons Hill Committee at Payne’s Plaza, Collymore Rock, St. Michael from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  On Monday, December 01, all committees will take part in the AIDS Awareness Day Rally at Independence Square, the City. The rally will run from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The following day, Tuesday, December 02, the Haggatt Hall Committee will organise a Food Bank Drive at Trimart Supermarket which will run the whole day, while on December 03, the Silver Sands group will host an Inter-Parish Primary Schools’ Essay Finals and Prize Giving ceremony at the Bethlehem Moravian Hall, Maxwell, Christ Church, starting at 10:00 a.m.

On Thursday, December 04, the St. Peter HIV/AIDS Education Committee will launch its ‘Operation Safe Christmas – Community Walkthrough’ at Six Men’s, St. Peter from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., while Silver Sands will coordinate an HIV/AIDS Christmas Concert at Heritage Park, Foursquare, St. Philip on Saturday, December 06, at 6:00 p.m.

The St. John Committee will host its Candle of Hope Service on Sunday, December 07, at the Carters New Testament Church, Carters, St. John at 5:00 p.m. while the Haggatt Hall group will launch its Christmas Shoebox Project at the Elroy Philips Centre, on Friday, December 12.
The next event, coordinated by the Sargeants Village/ Vauxhall committee, will be a Christmas concert at the Vauxhall Primary School, Vauxhall, Christ Church on Saturday, December 13, at 5:00 p.m. 

The activities conclude with a dramatic presentation by the Bonnets/Brittons Hill Education Committee at the Garrison Secondary School, Paddock Road, St. Michael at 9:30 a.m.

All persons are invited to support these events as Barbados joins the rest of the world in celebrating ‘World AIDS Day’ on Monday, December 01, 2008. This year’s activities are being held under the theme ‘Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise – Leadership.’
