Art lovers will soon be able to view work from the outstanding H. Richard and Nancy S.K. Sonis Collection along with 26 Barbadian artists.

The works are included in the Barbados Museum’s Homecoming Exhibition, being hosted at its headquarters from January 10 to February 27, 2011. The exhibits may be viewed Mondays to Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while they will be shown between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Some of the local artists who will be showcasing their work are Fielding Babb, Ahmaad Boodhoo, Wayne Branch, Virgil Broodhagen, Maggie Cozier, Conrick Warner, Golde White, Carl Wilkinson, Wynslo Phillips, Ras Akyem Ramsay and Heather-Dawn Scott.

The work in the collection is in a variety of media, while the predominantly Barbadian themes are executed mainly in oils and acrylic on canvas, water colours and mixed media. They include depictions of early scenes which have since changed, such as The Fairchild Street Market, A Street Scene at Oistins and The Chattel House at Dayrells Road.

This is the first collection donated to the Museum which features over 20 artists using a variety of techniques and media.

Admission to the Museum is free for locals and all other CARICOM nationals. For further information on the exhibition, members of the public should call 427-0201 or email museum@caribsurf.com.??saustin@barbados.gov.bb
