The Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Barbados, Dr. Stanislav Slavicky, presenting  Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Sen. Maxine McClean with a gift during his courtesy call.

The Czech Republic should soon have an honorary consul in Barbados.

This was disclosed yesterday during talks between that country’s Ambassador to Barbados, Dr. Stanislav Slavicky and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.

The honorary consul, who would be resident here, would assist in improving relations between the two countries by promoting commerce and travel.

Other issues discussed were the effects of the economic recession, climate change, the securing of a double taxation agreement between the two countries, the upcoming Summit of the Americas, alternative sources of energy and the possibility of cultural exchanges.

Barbados and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations in 1996.
