This year’s observance of Love Safely Week, February 14 to 19, will highlight the Ministry of Health’s hotline volunteers, who will again stage a National HIV/AIDS Hotline Valentine Marathon on Valentine’s Day, Monday, February 14.

The hotline will be open for calls from the public from 6:00 a.m. to midnight that day, and persons with questions or concerns about HIV, AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s), are encouraged to call??the Hotline numbers, 436-2444 or 436-AIDS (2437).

The marathon event has been staged since 1997, when the Hotline volunteers at the time expressed an interest in doing something "extra special and educational" on Valentine’s Day.??

According to the Acting National HIV/AIDS Hotline Manager, Jacqueline Yearwood, "Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to focus on safe sexual practices, as this day is associated with love and romance.?? The marathon is intended to increase the number of persons calling the hotline to gain information that we hope will also result in behavioral change on the part of the public."

Love Safely Week will see a number of activities being put on by various Government Departments and Non-Governmental Organisations.????lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
