Prime??Minister, David Thompson??

When the House of Assembly reconvenes tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9, Prime Minister David Thompson is expected to move the First Reading of the??Financial Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2009 and the Second Reading of the National Insurance and Social Security (Amendment) Bill, 2009.

Also standing in the name of the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance is a resolution to approve the guarantee of the payment of the principal sum of $50 million and interest to be borrowed by the Barbados Port Inc. from BNB Finance & Trust Corporation. This is to finance a portion of the Company’s existing debt and its ongoing capital works programme. Mr. Thompson is also expected to seek approval of the Arts and Sport Promotion Fund (Amendment) Regulations, 2008.

In addition, Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley, will move the passing of a Resolution to approve the grant of a lease in accordance with section five of Crown Lands (Vesting and Disposal) Act, Cap.225, to Tamarind Hall Inc. of a parcel of land at Blackmans, St. Joseph, for construction of the Municipal Complex.

Also slated for debate is the Second Reading of the University of the West Indies (Guarantee of Loans) (Amendment) Bill, 2009, which is to be piloted by Education Minister Ronald Jones.

Debate on these measures is expected to start at 10:00 a.m.
