Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley, yesterday assured the public that his Ministry had an ongoing plan to construct various types of homes, including high-rise buildings.

???We have land in Eckstein … and in Haggat Hall [in St. Michael].?? We have a very packed schedule going right down to December and then into the new year, we will be looking for new areas to construct houses,??? Mr. Lashley said.

The Housing Minister was at the time touring the Deacons site with National Housing Corporation (NHC) officials and Member of Parliament for the area, Christopher Sinckler.

Mr. Lashley disclosed that his Ministry had received permission to build units at Rices and River in St. Philip and work would start there shortly.???? He indicated that construction had already started at Coverley Phase Two in Christ Church, where 50 houses would be built.?? ???The second phase is 300 houses… Using the system that they are using out there it is estimated that we can get at least 1,000 houses at Coverley,??? the Minister stated.??

So far, the HELP programme has erected 40 houses at Four Hill, and 17 at French Village, both in St. Peter; 32 at Marchfield and 44 at Work Hall, both in St Philip; and 51 at Greens in St. George.?? Some 65 houses are also to be built at Constant in St. George.??lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
