In an effort to increase workers??? productivity, as well as to facilitate sustainable growth in the economy, Government has developed the Barbados Human Resource Development Strategy.

This from Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer, as she gave remarks at a public lecture held as part of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados??? week of activities.

The lecture was held at the 3Ws Pavilion, UWI, Cave Hill Campus, on Wednesday under the theme: Fostering a Culture of Game-Changing Leadership.??

???The main outcome of this strategy is to provide a framework for strengthening human resource and skills development, while improving the employability and productivity of all Barbadians,??? Senator Byer explained.

The Labour Minister listed several pieces of legislation which her Ministry was currently developing, aimed at providing the best possible working environments. These include the Anti-Discrimination Bill and the Minimum Wage Board Bill.

She also noted that while change was necessary, it was not enough to only adapt to change, but to stay relevant by being forward thinking in how the change process was undertaken.

???Ultimately, you want profitability, but you also want an employee-oriented, productive workplace in which employees are energised and engaged,??? she concluded.??The lecture???s featured speaker was Director of Global Business with the Society for Human Resource Management, Robert Garcia.??
