Calypsonians will promote the importance of being ready for the hurricane season during a Moonlight Movie Night, which comes off at the Weymouth Police Sports Complex, Roebuck Street, St. Michael, on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The featured film for the evening is Trouble the Water, a movie about a couple surviving Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and of community resilience and the need for human spirit under such conditions.
There will be performances from Red Plastic Bag, Stiffy, Hypasounds, Coopa Dan and Jafar, and an interactive session with officials from the Department of Emergency Management, (DEM) who will be on hand to offer advice as to how residents can prepare themselves, their properties and families for the possibility of a storm or hurricane affecting the island.
The event is aimed at raising preparedness levels, and keeping the messages of hurricane preparedness in the forefront of people’s minds during the Crop-Over season.
All are invited and are encouraged to walk with blankets and chairs and participate in the discussion that will follow on how they can take responsibility for their own preparedness levels during this hurricane season.
The Moonlight Movie Night is being hosted by the Public Awareness and Education subcommittee of the Preparedness, Readiness and the Resilience Working Group of the Technical Standing Committee on Coastal Hazards.
