Barbadians are being urged to return to their community of origin, and give back to those who are in need of assistance there.

This was the plea of President of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Marilyn Rice-Bowen, today at the launch of the "I Give Back" campaign, at the Deacon’s Farm institution.

The campaign was designed to promote volunteerism in the country, as well as encourage persons to become involved in the existing programmes offered by the YWCA, such as the Breakfast Club and the Reading Club. One of the features of this initiative will be the Tele-Companion Programme, which is aimed at linking persons who are shut-in with the outside world via telephone communication.

Also addressing the event was Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Urban and Rural Development, Christopher Sinckler, who commended the YWCA for developing this, and other programmes, which he deemed very important for the development of our society. He reaffirmed his support, and that of Government, by announcing the approval of a grant, which will be issued to the YWCA.
