Giving back to charity, encouraging growth, and establishing the contribution made by the international business sector will be the focus of International Business Week (IBW) 2011, which will be held from October 23 to 29.
At the launch of IBW last Tuesday, September 27, President of the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA), Connie Smith said that at the heart of IBW is the promise to wider Barbados that: "The international business community is committed to playing an integral role in the social and economic development of Barbados and will continue to make significant contributions to this end."
On Sunday, October 23, the week commences with a church service at the Hawthorne Memorial Methodist Church, Rendezvous, Christ Church, at 9:00 a.m. Later that afternoon, at 4:00 p.m., BIBA will host a Charity Health Walk/Run sponsored by
TeleBarbados. The five kilometre fun walk for all ages will go from BIBA’s office in Belleville to Dippers Bar at the Cruising Club via the Garrison, St. Michael.
On Monday, October 24, the opening Cocktail Reception will be held at the Hilton Barbados, Needhams Point, St. Michael, at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 25, persons are invited to tune in to the Down to Brass Tacks Call-in programme on Voice of Barbados 92.9 FM at 11:00 a.m. as the transformative potential of the International Business Sector of Barbados will be discussed in great detail.
On Wednesday, October 26, Can Barbados Grow and Prosper Without International Business will be the topic of the Public Discussion Forum, which will be held at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, Cave Hill Campus, University of the West Indies (UWI) at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, October 27, tertiary level students eyeing careers in the international business sector will receive expert guidance from representatives across the sector at the Career Showcase. This will be held at UWI, and will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Friday, October 28, will see the focus on the youth with the staging of a Secondary School Symposium at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre at 9:00 a.m. This event has been designed as a forum for fifth and sixth form students to learn more about this important sector.
To end the week of activities, BIBA will host a charity fundraising cocktail at the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre at 7:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy an evening of gourmet food, entertainment and charitable giving as the BIBA Charity raises funds for public health care on the island.
