COVID-19 update and press conference- February 7, 2021. (PMO)

President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP), Dr. Lynda Williams, is assuring the public that the COVID-19 vaccine is not going to cause major harmful effects, such as death.

Dr. Williams stated this during a press conference on the COVID-19 vaccine last evening.

She was referring to the false information surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines, insisting that “we want to put the correct information, the scientific information out there”.

The BAMP head noted that the COVID-19 Taskforce looked at the science every day, “what is relevant and what is coming out and put out information, so we want to encourage the population to listen carefully”.

She affirmed: “We believe that the AstraZeneca vaccine is a good vaccine for our population at this time.”

Dr. Williams said some of the misleading statements include that there are vaccines with microchips, and the microchip was being used as part of a campaign to control people.

She stressed: “None of these things are true, and vaccines have kept our nation and all the nations of the world safe.”

Making reference to the success with the polio vaccine, she said: “Polio was a major problem. And it is not a problem that anyone who is under the age of 70 or 80 can remember a single case of polio. And the reason why we can’t remember it is because of the vaccine campaign to eradicate polio, which was rolled out worldwide in the 50s and 60s, and so because of that we don’t see these diseases anymore.”
