The recently-concluded 9th International Labour Organization (ILO) Meeting of Caribbean Labour Ministers, held in The Bahamas, was one of the items discussed during last Friday???s meeting of local and regional labour officials.

The occasion was a farewell call of outgoing Director of the ILO and Decent Work Team for the Caribbean, Giovanni di Cola, and Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer, at her Warrens, St. Michael office.

Other topics on the agenda were various pieces of labour legislation, and the proposed Green Jobs Initiative.??With regard to Mr. di Cola???s reassignment, Dr. Byer urged him to remember the Caribbean in his future endeavours.

She stated: ???We hope that your experience in the Caribbean will carry over to your other portfolios and that you will remember the Caribbean has a voice that needs to be heard.???

Dr. Giovanni di Cola, a national of Italy, was appointed Director of the ILO Office and Decent Work Team for the Caribbean on May 1, 2013. Prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Director from September 1, 2009, and Officer-in-Charge from 2012.
