Services at the Immigration Department will be improved thanks to the launch of its new website today.

Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Erine Griffith, announced that information about the Department, its services and how they could be accessed would now be available online.

She stated that this would include all forms for various services, which could also be downloaded. As a result, it will no longer be necessary for members of the public to visit the Department to collect an application form.

In addition, Ms. Griffith said the website launch would provide the facility for an appointment system, whereby Barbadian citizens could choose the time to apply for and collect their passports. With the introduction of this service, she added, it is intended that any person applying for a passport will now spend no more than half an hour at the Department if all documents are in order.

The official further indicated this would bring to an end the long queues in the Passport Section. The pilot project will begin with passport application and delivery but, in time, the appointment system will be extended to all public services.

Members of the public are advised that beginning December 15, it will be necessary to visit the website and choose a date and time for submitting a passport application and for collection of the finished passport in 10 working days.

For further information, persons are asked to contact the Department via email at immigration@barbados.gov.bb.
